Shoreline Sunset

Lookin deep into the blue of a cloudless sky
Memories become vivid; take me back to a time
When we strolled hand in hand down the boardwalk at Laguna
I feel I’m there again with her… the dream
Somethin ‘bout the waves tumblin’ into her sandy body
Sets my mind to her hypnotic gaze
I get a vision her sleek being; Mass of hair golden in the sun
She’s the shoreline sunset; her name is California,
… And I love her
My reality is this cold place, where I am a stranger
Long and lonely nights with nothing to do but dream; dream of her
One thousand miles lies between us now
But all my highways lead to her
I’ll be goin back to her someday
I can’t stay away too long
Standin on Venice strand gazin at her
The sunstreak on the ocean always points at me
She is but a spirit; the nightlife is her heartbeat
Summer is her essence; she’s the shoreline sunset
Her windy fingers run through my hair as we ride down PCH
And at night moonlight clothes her silky white beach
She has rhythm, no rhyme, no musical meter
But there’s method to her madness
… And I love her.
